The idea of cleaning and organizing the spice drawer and cabinet can be overwhelming. The truth is, we typically use the same spices daily, and having a beautiful, simplified space can make the cooking feel easy.
Here are a few easy steps to creating a beautiful space in your kitchen.
- Take out all of your spices from the drawer and pantry.
- Check the expiration date on each bottle. You will be shocked by how many are expired. Toss those girls. You don’t want to keep expired food.
- Now organize your spices in two piles—one that you use each day or often during the week, and one that is rarely used. Example pumpkin pie spice or celery salt may not be used regularly, and season salt and garlic powder may be used every day.
- Now count how many bottles you have that are in your daily spice pile. I had 25 that were used often.
- Time for you to either order bottles on Amazon or hit your local Walmart. I went with Walmart and purchased these small mason jars that have a blue tint, and I also purchased plastic mason jar lids. Grab a sharpie paint pen in white to write on the bottles.
- Let the fun begin, empty your spices into the new jars and label with the pen. I like to use anything I already own first, so I did use some old bottles as well. This is why you see a mix of bottles in my photo.
- Take your uncommonly used spices and store them in a basket or bin.
